$The South Memphis pit where rib tips are the whole religion

“DeSoto County's old-school pit since 1976”
Old Style Bar-B-Q has smoked in Olive Branch since November 1976, a longtime DeSoto County favorite repeatedly voted the best restaurant in the county. It is the kind of unpretentious, decades-deep pit that anchors a suburb's barbecue identity, the address locals name first when someone asks where to eat south of the line. The cooking is classic and honest: hickory-smoked pork shoulder in generous portion, slow-smoked ribs built on old-fashioned dry-rub technique, and plate lunches rather than novelty. The BBQ beans come smoky and slow-cooked, the slaw plays cool counter to the smoke, and nothing on the menu is chasing a trend. Nearly half a century in, Old Style still cooks like a pit with nothing to prove and a county full of regulars to keep happy, one plate lunch at a time.
A nearly 50-year-old pit repeatedly named DeSoto County's best, just south of the state line. The hickory-smoked pork and ribs run on honest, old-fashioned technique and generous portions.

Old Style Bar-B-Q serves Memphis Style barbecue — Memphis BBQ is rib country. The great debate is wet vs. dry: dry ribs are coated in a paprika-heavy spice rub and served without sauce, while wet ribs are glazed with a tomato-vinegar based sauce. Memphis also claims BBQ spaghetti and the BBQ nachos.
